He arrived in a neatly-wrapped gift, an additional visitor when my friends and I hung out a few Saturdays ago. The name Edge emerged out of frustration over a missing puzzle piece -- an edge. It was also a follow up pun when one of Ed Sheeran's song came on Spotify.

Suddenly, we blurted out his full name, like our minds were instantly linked. "EDGE SHEEPAN!"

There was no debate. It was the best name we came up with and I have never been more proud that decision.

Edge is currently residing on my table, right beside the TARDISes and a Dalek, a bottle of knick knacks and another bottle of my baby teeth and wisdom teeth. Supposedly it's supposed to motivate me to focus on my school work and make me smile whenever I start to hate the cycle-of-paper-writing.

Edge has definitely taken the boredom out of my life. But I was also distracted. ehehehe.

Ever since I received Edge, that little sheep has taken over my Instagram.

1. Nope, not my birthday. I was just hogging the attention from Edge.

See, told ya.

2. I asked Edge to help me with school work, and he just passed by and ignored me. Gee, thanks.

3. He doesn't like to be kept waiting.

4. No, you're not allowed to come with me.

5. He remembers birthdays.

6. When the storm hit last week, power went out. Edge stayed with me in bed the whole day as I wasted the hours reading.

7. He is having a hard time conversing with a Dalek.

8. He challenged a Ferrari to a race. Okay.

9. The highlight of Edge's July was getting a drawing from Jace.

That's his happy face, I promise.

We're now brainstorming on a possible account, video, or series for Edge. Hope the attention doesn't get to his fluffy head. We'll see where his adventures will take him. One procrastination moment at a time.

I'm not talking about the food (because that's yummy). It's the annoying spam texts that you get, selling insurance or condominiums or whatever. My friends and I were discussing this matter on chat and the ways on how we could prevent it.

Most of my text messages on my phone are from spam texters. I don't erase them, just so I can track if ever they send another text message from the same number. I just usually reply with "I am not interested." but if they get all pesky and send a message again, I unleash the taray mode. I vary the replies with: Picking on their grammar, replying with "nahiya naman ako sa pangsa-scam mo," saying that I've told them a gazillion times to stop and they don't have respect for other people's request, or texting them with random stuff repeatedly (good thing I'm on unlimited texting).

Thankfully, Globe has a new online feature where you can report spam texts. Their campaign #stopspam hopefully should lessen the number of annoying texts people get from spammers and scammers. I haven't gotten to report the numbers that have made their way to my inbox, because there are a lot. And by a lot...

Note: Those with the reference numbers have been reported to Globe. I also have a consolidated list in this link. Feel free to comment.

Probably one or two of them are just trying to make a decent living. But because they're just too many and not a week goes by without receiving a message, I generalize all as spam. This list will probably be updated regularly if more and more texts arrive.

Wish I had enough time and wit to play along with a scammer, just like this person who made an effort to even send a peso via bank to a scammer. Maybe one day, I'll be able to think of a comeback.

To report spam:
1. Tweet Globe: @talk2globe or fill in a form at their website. (I prefer tweeting them because they give immediate feedback)
2. Include the number of the spammer and a screenshot of the message
3. Don't forget to include the hashtag #stopspam

Publishing. The last step in the process of writing. It comes in many forms -- a book bound and sold in bookstores, a digital copy in a blog or website, or a handout read in class -- as long as the written work is available for others to read.

After fourteen [insert adjective here] teaching sessions in April and May, I was able to have five thirteen-year old kids come up with their own stories. While I was doing their portfolio, I thought what better way to showcase their hard work than to compile all their stories and publish it into a booklet? Printing their stories and putting them in a folder was not appealing and it would just look like a normal submitted school project. Their published work had to look more legit.

All the kids learned the basic elements that went into a story. After going through several drafts, they submitted their final copy to me for final editing and proofreading. At the end, I had 45 pages worth of stories, complete with title pages and with a different page size.

Fonts used: Core Circus Pierrot for the title page, Palatino Linotype for the rest of the text

I was lazy to figure out how to layout them digitally. I printed them on scratch paper, then stuck them on folded paper. That way, it'll be easier for the photocopying ladies at UP to reproduce them.

I only spent a hundred pesos for reproducing 7 copies of the booklet. They even did the cutting and the stapling! UP SHOPPING CENTER YOU OZZAM.

The cover was printed on colored paper and it was cut to the dimensions of the booklet (when closed: 5"x6", the whole spread is well, duh: 10"x6")

Attached the cover to the spine using double sided tape. Gotta love double-sided tape. It is the answer to everything arts and crafts.

Tadaaaahhhh. Seven booklets ready for distribution! Well, six because I kept the red one. I gave one to my teacher.

One parent said, "Ay wow, souvenir."

A few days after the Amoranto shoot, we met up again as if we didn't miss each other. Nah. Nope. I don't miss them. Ugh, I'm sick of their faces. Ew. Yuck.

Halabyooo fronds.

Finally, we were complete! Edlyn's been living on the other side of the metro after getting married last January. Her schedule was free that day so we stole her from her wife-y duties for a couple of hours to hang out like college students. It was also Jace's opportunity to shoot Edlyn. Not with a gun, mind you.

Cerz also remembered to wear something locally made so that she, too, can be shot.

As usual, we didn't follow our plan. For an hour or so we were distracted with the puzzle that we left abandoned the last time we hung out. Because sorting was done, we were able to sit down and put the pieces together. We got crossed-eyed from trying to figure out which colors and pieces fit together until we were able to accomplish 98% of the edges.

The start (photo by Jihan)

Edges! Look, there's another puzzle box behind us waiting to be put together. (photo by Edlyn)

We just let the peak of the sun pass before heading out again. We found our shooting place at the Chocolate Kiss building along A. Roces Avenue. There weren't any people so we were able to shoot along the hallway.

I shoot Cerz, she shoots back.

Cerz is one of the writers of the recently concluded local show Got to Believe. Besides watching the show, we found entertainment in the live tweets from the fans. The fans were very passionate about the KathNiel pairing that whenever the characters would go through hardships, they would send hate tweets to Cerz and the rest of the writers of the show. They didn't know that every 8:30, we were all huddled on the FB chat, with Edlyn scrolling through the hate tweets, and us laughing/getting annoyed with the nonsense that the fans were sending. There was one time that Edlyn got fed up and replied to one of the fans who criticized Cerz's abilities as a writer. Eschooseme. Whojotinkyooarr? That started the war between her and that one passionate fan.

Soon, Edlyn coined herself as the sole member of the Kampon ni Helga.

When we met up that day, Cerz and Edlyn just had to have a photo together.

Hashtag paki-trend

I wonder what happened to the fans. After the show, we let them be and moved on to better things in life.

We're now planning our next meet-up. Every time we'd meet online (note: every day), we'd dream of the places we'd want to visit. We've gone as far as Japan and UK already in our dreams. We still have to raid Edlyn's house. That's next in our agenda and we need to settle with a good date to do that.

My gorgeous friends

Sunny Day at Amoranto

>> Wednesday, March 05, 2014

A GROUP of students plays on the driveway, blocking anyone from passing.

Suddenly, they stop upon seeing HIRO approach, a local celebrity who hosts a late night show.

(whispers audibly)
Uy, si Hiro.

The rest of the GROUP stares and gapes as HIRO passes by. His PA and other COMPANIONS walk with him, as they walk towards the parked car after a photoshoot.

(suddenly sings, as if to break the awkward silence)
Oops, I did it again.

HIRO, his PA and other COMPANIONS keep quiet and pretend to ignore the situation. Once they enter the car that is parked at the side, they burst in laughter and in song.

That scene pretty much summed up our afternoon last February 25. Jace had scheduled a shoot for Pinoy Threads and the rest of us tagged along. We also used that time to hang out and destress from the bad vibes life had been giving us.

Hehey, I missed taking photos. Bring it on.

If you need a place for your deep thoughts, this is the place to be

Even if we almost melted under the heat of the sun, we still had fun. We ended up in Jihan's place, our feet at the mercy of Momo's chewing spree, while we started on the puzzle that Jace gave her as a housewarming gift. Little did we know that a few days after, we'd meet up again, this time with Edlyn around. But that's for another entry.

This feels like college all over again. I like it.

Edlyn gets married

>> Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Wait, what?

Ya read right. Our dearest Edlyn who used to avoid hugs and any form of cheesiness crossed the bridge and became the opposite of anti-contact. She now gives hugs, and not just any other hug. Think big and cuddly hugs. And to complete the cheese factor, she gets married.

Cue squeals.

The events in January leading to the BFF's big day were chronicled in doodles.

1. Guise, guise. How do you bridal shower?

The usual bridal shower did not happen. Since we're a hundred percent sure that Edlyn will kill us if we bring in a stripper, her sister suggested that we did a karaoke session instead. It was a perfect teamwork, Edlyn's siblings devised a plan to bring her to the karaoke place (reason: family dinner), while the rest of us reserved the place and did the inviting.

Template from myexpression.com

It was such an unusual bridal shower because the groom was there and boys were allowed to join us. It was more fitting to call it a pre-wedding than a bridal shower. Since the invitation was done on a short notice, only a few came. lol but at least each period of Edlyn's school life had a representative.

2. The Wedding Weekend
The week leading to the wedding weekend was such a blur. In all excitement, my mind wandered to what could happen during the wedding weekend. I'm surprised that I was able to concentrate with whatever I had to during the week.

Cerz and I checked-in at Richmonde hotel, the same hotel where both Edlyn and Jon stayed, the day before the wedding. We had the whole day to frolic and we used that day to bond. We invited Jihan over for a dip in the hotel pool. Edlyn dropped by our room too for a short chit-chat in the afternoon. Girl time!

Slappy Cakes is expensive. hahaha

Swimming with Jihan in the fuh-ree-zing pool (photos by Cerz)

We were up the next day at 6:30 AM to have breakfast and prepare. THIS IS IT PANSIT!

All dolled up for our bridesmaids' duties! (photo by Cerz)

We hung out at Edlyn's room after checking out for the pre-wedding shoot. Edlyn's dad was giving out funny remarks regarding all the fuss that happens before a wedding. It's true, a bride can never get dressed in peace. From the make up to putting on the dress, to wearing the shoes are documented in video and photo. They took hours to get everything recorded. I'm sure if the cameras weren't there, Edlyn would be dressed in 30 minutes. lol. But it's her big day, so the big fuss was allowed.

Good thing the hotel was just minutes away from the church. Even if pre-wedding shoot ran late, the wedding started on time.

All wedding pictures are from Jace's camera. I brought a camera but of course I couldn't lug a huge ass camera with me while walking down the aisle.

My mum was one of the principal sponsors

OMGEDLYNISSOPRETTY. When she reached the middle part of her walk, I started to tear up. LAWLZ.

We all cheered when the much-awaited kiss happened. Because why the hell not? Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of the kiss. We'll just wait for the official photos from Ruffa.

The celebration continued at Gazebo Royale, where all the fun happened. Let's just say that what happened at Gazebo will remain in Gazebo. I think the friends had the most fun, especially during the games part.

Quincy took over my camera because most of the time, the entourage (me included) was dragged into things we weren't expecting to do. But we did it anyway for the love of the bride and groom. The following photos are a mix of my shots and Quincy's.

Cerz and Chika

Quincy and Jihan

Mitch and Geopet Peter

Table 17 rules! We were one of the winners of the guess-the-song game. :D

The newly weds. YIHEE.

Edlyn and Jon's law friends are total nutheads. You wouldn't think that they are lawyers because they were so game to make a complete fool out of themselves. They were the life of the party.

The epic macarena dance off

The look of victory on Jace's face when we were eliminated from the singles' game. This is the part where I am not allowed to speak about the fate of the pair that "lost." HAHAHAHA

Before Jon took off the garter from Edlyn's leg, the guys joined in for a semi sleazy dance.

BFFs! (photo by Jace)

It was such a happy day. It was that day when I saw Edlyn smile the biggest. We were happy to see her happy and full of love. We could see how much Jon and Edlyn loved each other and we were grateful to be part of that memorable moment of their life. It was the start of a new life together, as husband and wife.

I'll update the post when the official photos come out. For now, enjoy the same-day edit video that sums up the whole wedding. Congratulations Edders and Jon! We love yooouuuu.
