Singapore Math. Boxes and brackets. Concrete-pictorial-abstract. What are these all about?

Schools in the Philippines are now adopting an effective way of teaching Mathematics to students. It was developed by the Singaporeans and they have proved its effectiveness by topping the educational charts, besting other students from USA and Europe.

With this new learning style, children are able to understand Math lessons better, lessening their fear of Math. They use boxes and brackets to solve for seemingly difficult problems. They see why they have to learn Math and see its relevance to everyday activities.

Learn how schools in the Philippines are adopting Singapore Math in their classrooms. The Galileo Enrichment Learning Program will be having the country’s first Singapore Math Learning Festival on October 8 at the AIM Conference Center, Makati City. The festival features a major talk by Dr. Queena Lee-Chua, Math professor at the Ateneo de Manila University and a multi-awarded educator; and sessions from experts and Galileo teachers. They will tackle how Singapore math is implemented in Galileo centers and schools, its benefits to a child’s learning development, how parents can be involved in this learning process, and the fun Singapore math activities that can be done inside the classroom and at home.
