red carpet to the god of fa dept

>> Thursday, May 31, 2007

to the person who father jav calls "god" besides the Big-One-in-Heaven, HAPPY BIRTHDAY XANDER!

xander. xander da gander. xanderKhan! xands. he goes by many names by the students who enter the lair of this person of power. he will laugh at your face when you call him "sir." if he's in the mood, he will ask you to bow to him before making any requests (diba benny? haha kidding beanie). and if you're geopet, he'll gladly offer you his love. (disclamer: that's an inside joke among block e 2006)

if you're gonna bring a friend (non-fa person) to the fa dept, be sure that you bring an offering to the god for approval. it may be in the form of pizza, pizza, or pizza. don't forget the bottle of c2 lemon. if you provide him with c2, your friend can have access to sit on the black cushion chairs and bask in the department's airconditioned room. you are also granted permission to inhale the air sprayed with glade.

"i just had my wisdom tooth extracted. in great pain and soothing it with tons of ice cream. indulging myself in pain and pleasure." (or something to that extent. i can't remember his text last night.)

if you know the god of fine arts dept, you know that you should stay away from him in these occasions: registration and end of semesters. xanderKhan is off limits to any form of "pa-cute bugging" moments or else you shall experience real wrath. try it, just for the heck of experience.

to make xander happy, supply him with a regular dose of chismis. he must know all love triangles, crushes (chismis on crushes among fa students is highly recommended), hot girls lurking around gonzaga 2nd floor, funny teachers, and good movies. don't forget to share books, cds, dvds, and comic books.

incoming freshmen, shiftees and minoring students are required to go through the xanderKhan initiation. by the end of their four-year stay (or less for shiftees and minor students), they must be able to have a love-hate relationship with the god, nudge elbows and use their beautiful eyes and ask if they can use the fa printer for their non-fa papers.

xander, xander, xander, what will the fa dept be without you? happy (and painful... due to your wisdom tooth) birthday to you and may the ice cream stores be happy for all your ice cream purchases.

CHEERS TO YOU OH GREAT GOD OF THE FINE ARTS DEPT! *raises c2 bottle* block e 2006 loves you (plus other batches of block e)!

1. my english failed me yesterday.

i drew a camera on my coffee cup and wrote a quote about it. i wrote:

"life is a series of photographs. you just have to capture every momentS."

where has my english gone? hahahha

when i went home, i bumped into liza on the train platform. she asked me which station i would be dropped off, i told her, "ahmm. galing ako ng buendia. may training kami." (i came from buendia. we had training.) it's just the same as answering "yes" to the question, "what time will you go to sleep?"

2. i made a new layout for my lj. i became ms. creative yesterday, that i couldn't put if off for another day. and i loooove my citrus layout.

here are the icons that come with my layout:

tootles! will make a longer blog entry after our training.. that'll be next week.

bomb threat ala goodwill building

>> Wednesday, May 23, 2007

the building's engineer came up to our office and told us to evacuate the building. asap. he told us to leave our computers and bring our valuables. no buts, no questions.

we thought it was another fire drill and we went down the fire exit leisurely. para bang naglalakad lang papunta ng starbucks.

jupiter street was filled with people, all from goodwill building. we occupied even the parking lots of the buildings across ours. it was like having our own rally; only, we didn't know what was happening.

bomb threat pala... RAW. according to officemates, nachismis nila na may bomba raw sa office building. and the bomb was set to explode in five minutes. it was a precautionary tactic to evacuate everyone out of the building for our safety.

the funny thing was that people crowded at the lobby because it was drizzling outside. ummm. if the building's gonna explode, do these people know that the whole building's gonna crash down on them?

the bomb scare scared us...

see the faces of the terrified galileo people.

sorry, di ako marunong kumuha ng pic. hahahaha i look different.

do those faces look scared at all? camown, sino namang engot ang gustong magpasabog ng lumang building na dinadaga?

before i could witness a wonderful bomb explosion, and i had to leave. i didn't even see a bomb squad with cool guns and gear, only an fx of policemen. i even doubt that they were wearing chest protectors. if i see a mound of ashes on the ground tomorrow where our building used to be, it'll be a sign that we won't have work. hahahahahahahahaha

poor cup of coffee, i left my starbucks on my table.

and so i'm recovering from this weird sleeping pattern.

two days ago, i stayed up to two am trying to finish my kinder worksheets. so came tuesday, and told my boss that i'd be working home because i was too groggy and tired to commute from novaliches to makati. thank God for nice bosses like her so i got back to my position in our library and started working in my pajamas.

6 am, i started working. till 5 pm. i said i'll take a little nap at 5pm, then wake up at around 8pm to continue my worksheets.

i woke up and thought that it was the best nap ever. i looked at the clock to see how long i've slept.

the clocked showed 4 am. huwaw, i slept the night and in a few hours the sun was going to rise.

panic, panic, panic.

two hours before i was supposed to wake up for work, i started typing away. beanie was the only one online so he kept me sane.

it's now 846 am, and i'm at work. i didn't wear my contacts because i was too lazy and my eyes needs rest from all the computer stress. i'm on the i-don't-care-how-i-look-like-today mode so a pair glasses are on my face right now. haha

tonight, jace and i are going to check out planet infinity. time to get those abs done! swimming pool, here comes my laps!!!!

who says camera phones can't take good pictures?

of course, nothing beats an slr camera; but with good lighting, a little tweaking, and an eye for beautiful colors, a simple picture can turn into something worth appreciating.

drunk elephants

>> Friday, May 18, 2007

if there were a phrase to describe buses in manila, it'll be "drunk elephants."

i can't understand why buses can't stay in one lane. they're worse than drunkards, swerving from one lane to the other. first they're on the right most lane. then without any signal, they'll switch to the left, overtaking other buses or jeeps (mr. driver, light signals were made for a purpose, so please use them). sometimes they take the middle lane, even if there are only two lanes -- which means, half of its large body is on one lane, and the other takes the other lane. point five of one lane and point five of the other lane makes one. a quick math equation for a huge -- wait no, HUMONGOUS -- piece of drunk metal.

buses feel like they're top models on the ramp. they think they're slim and could fit the small space in between two small vehicles. they strut their big and wide asses, not minding if they're close to making a large dent to your precious car. they're not elephants in matter of listening, because they turn a deaf ear to the honking of the vehicles in danger. not the perfect candidate for philippines' next top model. they're just mowing the roads.

they think they're the relatives of flash or dash. they run at speeds of 200 km/h along non hi-way roads. well, even if they're on a hi-way and it's traffic (mind you, manila traffic is bad), they still speed like a fired bullet. ok, i may be exaggerating at the speed. but hey, you feel that you're gonna leave your heart on the starting point as soon as the bus takes speed.

they were made to take in large groups of people. however, since the mrt (metro railway transit) was built, the demand for buses lessened. before, they were convenient. now they're pain in the asses, not only for traffic enforcers, but also for private vehicles who want a smooth drive along edsa.

it'll be a rare moment to see a bus filled with people. that's why edsa becomes a storage tank of empty buses. they make the road a parking lot, pleading that passengers take their mode of transportation. over twenty buses are lined up, all with the same destination. it's like choosing a brand of shampoo with over two dozens of choices. for buses, there are only two choices of perks: airconditioned with a television screen, or the regular with only the pollution as your source of air.

i wish the bus companies would realize that they need to cut down on the travel time of their buses. it'll save fuel. it'll lessen headaches. it'll ease traffic. or at least discipline the drivers in their driving styles. we wouldn't like to have buses jailed up because of their "drunkedness" on the roads.

this is my most favorite video of michael buble from his new album, "call me irresponsible"

michael buble

You're a falling star, You're the get away car.
You're the line in the sand when I go too far.
You're the swimming pool, on an August day.
And you're the perfect thing to say.

And you play you're coy, but it's kinda cute.
Ah, When you smile at me you know exactly what you do.
Baby don't pretend, that you don't know it's true.
Cause you can see it when I look at you.

And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It's you, it's you, You make me sing.
You're every line, you're every word, you're everything.

You're a carousel, you're a wishing well,
And you light me up, when you ring my bell.
You're a mystery, you're from outer space,
You're every minute of my everyday.

And I can't believe, that I'm your man,
And I get to kiss you baby just because I can.
Whatever comes our way, ah we'll see it through,
And you know that's what our love can do.

And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It's you, it's you, You make me sing
You're every line, you're every word, you're everything.

So, La, La, La, La, La, La, La
So, La, La, La, La, La, La, La

And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It's you, it's you, You make me sing.
You're every line, you're every word, you're everything.
You're every song, and I sing along.
'Cause you're my everything.
Yeah, yeah

WARNING: long post ahead

>> Wednesday, May 16, 2007

i noticed that for two days i've been thinking. i've been quiet around the house and the office. i don't know if it's the post menstrual hormones kicking in, or the changing weather, or my body. i don't know where or whom to blame my thinking mode.

you could call it a self-evaluation. you could call it emo-ness.

i'm just not in the mood to by hyperactive (well, in the exception of the bloomies, who have been my source of hyperness for the past two days. especially with new-found friends and stories *wink*). i chose not to be disturbed in my ym. i have that "do NOT disturb" status. emphasis on the NOT. if someone messaged me, i ignored them. haha sorry if i didn't return your messages, i'm not mad at you.

anyway. i noticed that i've been tired lately because of the long trips from the house to the office, and back. i spend almost 2 hours for travel, counting the traffic and the long mrt lines. i don't mind taking the mrt. i just don't like everyday routine of waking up early and groggy. i miss the college days when mwf i wake up early for philo (better take it early in the morning than at 3 pm) and go idle after that; or tth, where my first class starts at 930. i have the privilege to stay up late and wake up late or sleep early and wake up late.

having a house far from makati is starting to annoy me. i don't like leaving the office first, with unfinished business, then promise to continue it the next day. but i have to leave, because my ride is waiting for me at the other end of the mrt line.

that's also one of my concerns. it's not that i have something against the 'rents, i just think i need to be "away". i'm turning 21 on july, and i feel that i'm tied to them everywhere i go. it's as if my life is on a planner that every member of the family must know where i am, what i'm doing, who i'm talking to, what i'm planning for the next few days. i don't mind sharing my plans, but sometimes i want them NOT to know. but i can't. even a one-hour overtime at work needs to be broadcasted through text. and if you don't text, they'll go, "where are you?". *shakes head*

i don't want to feel guilty when i'm out late and they need to fetch me. then someone gets the asthma attacks, or the stomach ache, or the grumpiness. if i'm to be grumpy, i'd like to blame it on myself. i don't like the current situation that everything has to be done in conjugal actions with the 'rents.

i shall repeat, i have nothing against them. they're a great family, and i love them so much.

but i need to learn to be independent.

i've tried to live with the relative two jeepney rides away from my office. the set-up is fine, except for the location, the people and the standards.

1. i am picky when it comes to bathrooms. not comfortable.
2. no living area. the only place i could stay and feel "clean" is my room

that's why i didn't even last 2 days in that house. i wanted a different place.

i don't know if i can even afford it. i don't want to let go of the house responsibilities such as paying the bills. but i need the money for the house (or small pad) and my own bills. of course i'd want an internet connection and cable access. it's like living a life, with everything new. my salary can't afford it. if that's gonna be the case, i'm gonna have to let go of starbucks. HAHA which i cannot do.

a lot of things have been going on in my head. this is the second day. i wonder what i'll think about tomorrow.

note: i don't need anyone's sympathy. :P i need a place to vent everything out. i'm not mad, i'm not angry, i'm not annoyed. yes, it may be an evaluation of my situation and where i need to stand. i didn't post this at my other blog. i think i feel more comfortable talking about my life with strangers who read my blog than those i know who regularly check my other blog. :)

cheers! see you girls tomorrow at tri noma!

bloomfield gig update:
tonight, right now, they're at eastwood. with all the other girls. *envious mode*
may 17 6 pm, tri noma north edsa (the new mall right across sm north)

glittery feeling

>> Monday, May 14, 2007

excerpt from olive's ocean
by kevin henkes

They were outside, at the airport, waiting for the shuttle bus to take them to the car rental lot. Martha thought she smelled the ocean already and was immediately excited. She breathed deeply, letting the feeling sink in. They would be at Godbee's shortly, right on the water, and every molecule, every atom, knew it.

She called the feeling the glittery feeling, and she always experienced it when they were this close, when they were at this part of their trip to Godbee's.

The glittery feeling. She'd named it because it felt to her as if her skin and everything beneath it briefly became shine and jumpy and bubbly, as if glitter materialized inside her, then rose quickly through the layers of tissue that comprised her, momentarily sparkling all over the surface of her skin before dissipating into the air.

Martha closed her eyes and let her arms drift slightly upward. She couldn't help her self. A small joyful squeak escaped from her throat.

"What do you think you are? A bird?" It was Vince.

Her arms fell.

"The bus is here," said her father. "Grab everything and hurry."

Her mother accidentally bumped her with a suitcase as they jockeyed for a place on the curb among the crowd. "Move, honey," she said.

The glittery feeling was gone.

p.s. I just love Olive's Ocean. The Newberry Medal is worth it.

mah girlfriends from the bloomfields forums came up with weird names. we're using it to call each other. we are such crazy girls.

1. i am ading bading. it was supposed to be ading only, but for some reason, my matutina added bading for the rhyme. the name stuck, and now they're calling me ading bading.
2. jenn is matutina hokna. don't ask me where i got the hokna. it just came out of nowhere. hahaha "ayy dubb theeee matutinaaa hoknaaa."

4. martha is pengkot mulangtawad. where in the world did get the surname? she doesn't know either. hahaha

6. mea is mace. sweet name din.
7. my dear chikai is richelle mccartney. chikai was asking jenn to guess her real name (which is gabrielle). chikai said it rhymes with michelle, thus prompting jenn to say richelle. hahaha mccartney came from, who else? paul mccartney. :D
8. anne is lukring. hahaha that sounds like a character from bakekang. her surname frikriling is still awaiting approval.
9. joyce is jinggoy. i want to put "pinggoy" at the end. haha like kookie who loves to say "tumpak", she has her own line, "Boom!"
10. beatrix is bell with an ah or bella way. elegant name for a pretty girl.
11. bambi the disney deer is mr. bogart kalamantutay. oh my. haha bambi turned into a guy.

17. maui was christened with her own name too, tambolera paldita. tambolera has something to do with her favorite bloomfield, while the palda came from a nickname coined by her friends, "maskuladang naka palda."

we're still thinking of a name tricia with the triple a. for the meantime it's tricia AA. hahaha

tell me if i have missed anyone. :) if you wanna join in the fun, post at the newbies thread! we'll be happy to acquaint ourselves to your amusement.

Radio turned on to our usual Saturday program. Two hours of non-stop music. No DJs, no commercials, no station IDs, no callers, no requests, no annoying jingles. Once in a while, in the middle of five or so songs, the announcer gave quotes from the Bible or from inspirational people. He spoke in slow and relaxing tones.

It was a jazz and bossa nova morning. Mom was was doing laundry. I was on my parents' bed, lying on my tummy, book in hand, situated near the radio. Dad was downstairs, tinkering with the car. The windows were open, letting the music from the radio be heard to all our ears, wherever we were. The scenery felt rural-like. If the scene were a picture, it would be shot in sepia.

Mom entered the room. Micahel Buble started to sing. I stood up and hugged mom. Then, along with the rhythmic song, we danced. From the corner of my eye, I saw Dad tapping his feet to the song. Everyone seemed slow and calm, like the waves of the ocean on a fair weather.

We danced. Mom sang. We moved around the room, hand in hand. I bended my knees so that I could rest my head on Mom's shoulder. I'm an adult (i think), Mom could not carry me like a doll anymore. But nothing could stop me from receiving a mother's hug.

The song ended. We had to get back to our chores. Mom got a hug again for a finale. It didn't end there.

"Happy mothers' Day Ma. Love you."

We will dance again next Saturday, on our usual Saturday radio program.

criss cross

>> Friday, May 11, 2007

i was supposed to write a story. but i guess i was too lazy to finish it. besides, it was starting to become cheezy. i don't like too much cheeziness. hahaha

criss cross is a book written lynne rae perkins. it is about a group of teenagers yearning for something new to happen to their lives. they have just gone past puberty stage (haven't they?) and they are in the situation where the name of an opposite sex means something else than a person with different physical attributes.

it may be a cheezy topic to write about, but lynne writes it in a poetic way. she weaves words in a way where love becomes a work of art, and not a cliche term that is overly used.

i bought this book last year in fully booked. i harassed my mother in buying the 700 book using her credit card. i promised that i'd pay her. until now, i haven't paid her my dues. AHAHA i'm reading the book for the second time, absorbing the sentences lynne writes on her pages.

"Debbie found herself wishing that one of the others was there. Or that some other sound would puncture the quiet before it grew too large. The quiet had come out of nowhere; it surprised Lenny, too. Their heads were suddenly empty of the usual easy conversations, their eyes looked through the windshield into the backyards, touching on all the familiar objects, non of which were doing anything worth commenting on, non of them were doing anything at all. Everything was just sitting there.

Some birds began chirping, but it wasn't enough.

They were alone, no one was around. He was a boy and she was a girl. Debbie was thinking she might go home and see what was on TV."

awkwardness in silence. a girl's necklace on the grass. a radio station. a girl in guitar class. a newly composed song. guitar chords.

puppy love is such a wonderful thing. i wish i could go back to that feeling again.

silence please

>> Thursday, May 10, 2007

if i had to choose one vacation place, the library would be one of my choices. yesterday, i went to the rizal library (ateneo de manila's library) to research on children's literature. i felt like a student again, armed with library books. the only thing that separated me from the students is the id that i presented at the table.

the id screams, "i'm not a student anymore! i feel so old!"

it was refreshing to get away from the workplace and visit this holy place. i took my spot at the second floor and drowned myself with the books i took from the shelf. as i read through pages of fables and plays, i listened to my surroundings. students flipping through pages of books, the photocopying machine clicking from a distance, the beeping of the computer every time someone borrows a book. i put on my earphones and crossed my legs. i just had to smile, i missed studying in the library.

it's been a while since i've really sat down and read a book leisurely. i read books in motion: when i'm in the car, in the mrt, on the way to work, or whenever i get the chance to do so. i miss that one day where i sit down on a chair, and read a book in peace. i miss the proper lighting, the silence, the view of books on a shelf, the undisturbed moments. i miss the moments where i shut everyone else around me. i don't mind being alone in a library, i don't need to talk to anyone there, except the interaction between me and the book i'm reading. heavenly.

i find it amazing when i feel refreshed after reading a good book. it seems taxing to read a 500-page book, but believe me, it's such an enlightening feeling after reading the last word of the last chapter. you'd want to read one book after the other. there are so many books in the world, so little time to read.

(that reminds me of a philo question. "what's the use of life if we're going to die anyway?" it's somewhat of a kinda sorta connected with reading books: "what's the use of reading books if you're not gonna be able to read them all?" i guess it's in the thrill of finding new. you will not be able to read all of them, but it is such a wonderful feeling when you have discovered a new idea, a new author, a new book and a new quote.)

i should do this more often. i'll try to fit this into my schedule, and try to visit the library once a month.

by the way, ateneo graduates, apply for an alumni card. entrance to the library is free. you can't borrow books (booo), but at least you don't need to pay a hundred pesos. :D

and to end my post, here's someone from the great lakan. this is his version of great balls of fire. fire on, lakan!

i fell so abused.

being the only girl among the cousins yesterday at tito edgar's wake. the guys decided to team up and pick on me. nice.

it has been a long time since i've last seen my second cousins. so yesterday, i saw them, tall and in their teens, ready to strike, ready to pin me down in a game of pusoy dos and tong its. who said i'll be defeated?

excuse me my dear cousins, i still have this block e spunk in playing those card games! i just love the look on their faces when i stared at them while putting down my cards, five cards at a time, winning with that two of diamonds in my hand.

i only lost once, unlike toffer who lost almost all games. but i could sense the abuse when the guys would whisper and look over their cards. i cannot imagine what they are capable of doing, if i didn't win those games. winning the games earned myself a little respect from my cousins. haha

din loves me so much that he kept on picking on me yesterday. he even tried to make a deal with me. he'll get me a boyfriend. in return, i should get him a girlfriend. naughty cousin. :P

i'll see you guys again tonight, but i don't think we could be as rowdy as yesterday. we have to look holy for the mass.

4. they're such lovable people! and nice too! (cheers to chikai, jenn, roni and mike)
5. they follow forum rules

Losing the Keys

>> Thursday, May 03, 2007

In one of the online forums I am part of, I joked about taking the keys of a P60,000 keyboard of a band member. If i would take one key at a time, one gig per week, it'll take me over 21 weeks to fully have the keyboard in my hands. That is excluding the keyboard parts and the days I won't be present at their gigs.

Even if I were successful in taking the instrument, I wouldn't even have the use for it. My upright piano, which has accompanied me for eight years in classical music, is now accumulating dust, along with my grade school and high school books.

It's a syndrome most of us go through. I call it the "losing the keys" syndrome. We yearn (or purchase) for something as a remembrance of a situation, a person or a thing that made one part of our life exhilarating. It may be a pair of 100-peso flats from the tiangge, an mp3 player taking shape of an iPod, the pick of your favorite guitarist hidden among a stash of memorabilia, or a worn-out picture of a 7-year crush under the pillows. And when you miss purchasing that one thing that will connect you to your past, you'll slowly feel that your sanity is losing, just like misplacing the only set of keys to your house.

Discontinuing something and remembering about it in the future is one of the biggest regrets we could experience. Even if we try to get it back, there will be this it's-not-the-same-anymore kind of feeling. We turn to be fan girls (or boys) of it, or obsessive persons who couldn't get what they want. Replacing it wouldn't do any better.

There is no medical treatment to surgically remove the "Losing the Keys" syndrome from your system. Just like what CSI Catherine Willows said to a father when the murder could not be blamed at him, "You'd have to live with it." Cliche as it sounds, it's not curable with a daily dose of medicine. Unless you really have gone crazy over it and is qualified for admission to the mental hospital (whoops, I hope I don't go that crazy enough).

Losing the keys once in while is normal for us. There will always come a time that when you don't go looking for it, it'll be just right under your nose, ready to make your life worth remembering again. This time, it shouldn't be a depressing moment. It'll make you smile because it has been part of your life, even for fleeting moment.

I guess I won't take the keyboard anymore. I'll just ask for an autograph.
