HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

>> Thursday, November 30, 2006

to my dear dad, happy birthday!

as everyone is celebrating bonifacio day (or a big "no classes" day because of the storm reming/durian), the pitargue family is celebrating the birthday of two of their family members, my dad and my great grand father.

my great grand lolo's named after andres bonifacio. he was living with us when he died when i was around 10 years old. my dad was supposed to be named andre, but somewhere in the city hall, the typist encoded "i" instead of "e". everyone calls him andri or andrito (by my lolo). my dad's name sounds barok.

andres bonifacio was a "war freak" and a supporter of the revolution. my dad and lolo are the opposite. they love the quiet life, reading books and staying at home. my lolo loved his geese (that's were i got my daily dose of protein when i was small) and pigs. my dad loved tinkering with machines and gadgets.

dad looks like lolo andres so much. now i know how my dad will look in his 90s. we keep a big picture of him in my piano room (which used to be his room) at home. so whenever i go in there, there's a big smiling lolo andres greeting us. some people are creeped out by the pic, but i find it cute. i feel that lolo andres still lives there and he's always ready to greet me. ehe

happy birthday to two of my dear guys. :) i love you.

and a "revolutionary" pic to end this post. taken from random pictures.

Don't Give Up (You are Loved)

Don’t give up
It’s just the weight of the world
When your heart’s heavy, I
I will lift it for you
Don’t give up
Because you want to be heard
If silence keeps you, I
I will break it for you

Everybody wants to be understood
Well I can’t hear you
Everybody wants to be loved
Don’t give up
Because you are loved

Don’t give up
It’s just the hurt
That you hide
When you’re lost inside, I
I’ll be there to find you

Don’t give up
Because you want to burn bright
If darkness blinds you I
I will shine to guide you

Everybody wants to be understood
Well I can’t hear you
Everybody wants to be loved
Don’t give up
Because you are loved

You are loved

Don’t give up
It’s just the weight of the world

Don’t give up
Everyone needs to be loved

You are loved

3 will be sent to the big dome

>> Tuesday, November 28, 2006

i really hate eliminations. not only are the contestants scared of being eliminated, the audience are also being sent to the "nervous chamber room". i feel i'm part of the elimination series.

last night, one was sent home while three made it to the finals. personally, there was no one deserving to be sent home, based on their performances last sunday. but if you would base it on consistency throughout the competition, miguel is the least candidate to stay. he did well last sunday, so i wasn't sure if it was his time to go.

the group was divided into two: miguel and gian, mau and jan. (commercial break) miguel and gian was asked to sit down, while mau and jan were asked to step forward. (commercial break). jan was asked to sit down. ryan agoncillo asked a hanging question to mau. tension builds up. (commercial break.) ryan asked mau if who among the three guys she thought should be in the hot spot with her. miguel was chosen, based on mau's observation on his performance in the past sundays. did mau make the right choice? (commercial break) finally, after a lot of commercial breaks and silence gaps, miguel was booted off.

i hope mr c keeps his promise on sitting down with miguel and writing a song with him. miguel will make it big, with his looks and young voice. he just needs a little motivation and time to move on, especially with the bulk of criticisms he has received over the past months. :) God speed, miguel.

big band night

last night, everyone shone in their own musical way. i guess it'll be difficult to choose who will be eliminated tonight because no one flopped or hit a wrong note in their performances. everyone got good comments, too.

jan - he did his romantic moves by giving mamita a flower and asked one person from the audience to sing (gail daw?). his facial expressions and movements were not awkward, compared last week and he had this spunk with his songs. maybe it's the choice of songs that put him in the good spot. yeah, maybe.

miguel - i guess his voice is fit for this genre. he didn't look boyish, nor as the rumors would say, "gay". i'm not good when it comes to gaydars and such, but there are some songs that brings out the feminine side in him. and last night, it didn't show up. his suave moves and voice placed him in the safe spot. even the comments were good. however, there was a tinge of elimination in the judges' comments even if they were positive. mr c would write a song with miguel "if he gets eliminated tonight".

mau - as diva as ever. i liked how well she pulled off the song "waray waray". i shall see her in the finals.

gian - whooohoo! my bet for the competition. as wonderful as always, i voted for him 10 times. ahahaha no more comment. i say less for those who deserve more.

so tonight will be a heart-thumping night. i don't know who deserves to be eliminated because they all did well. but i hope gian doesn't get eliminated tonight.

sing for the audience of one

>> Sunday, November 26, 2006

we weren't supposed to watch the concert at crossroad yesterday, but because of a last minute call received, we were able to get tickets for the "audience of one".

the dinner concert (well, concert for us because we didn't purchase a dinner ticket) was a 24th anniversary celebration for crossroad. bread of life ministries has been in the philippines for 24 years and i've seen most of its improvements. from the single service they had in miriam college (which they call maryknoll), to celebrity sports, to circle, and now to the lot which we call our own. we know have our own building and we stand at 77 mo. ignatia st. we know have crossroad 77. i never imagined that we would have something like this now, with a bookstore, tea spa, 24-hour gym, a library for highschool and college students (which they call the shire. aha LOTR inspired), outreaches in different parts of the philippines, a wushu philippine team, and a learning pub.

the church has been going through different fund raising activities for the improvement and development of the building. last night was one of those activities.

among the list of performers were isay alvarez, robert sena, raymond lauchengco, goya bulahan, and a guy whose name i don't know. there were groups of performers: the choir (yes, that choir which i auditioned for and quit after a few meetings because of work sched conflicts), the sonshine street kids choir (led by hans, yeahoo!), and the street dance advanced class.

my favorite song -- and i'm guessing everyone else in the audience area -- was when raymond lauchengo sang somewhere over the rainbow. lolo pete had his ukelele out and performed with him. everyone cheered on when they saw lolo pete on stage. he even wore a hawaiian shirt to go with his ukelele. it was priceless. raymond lauchengco's voice is just... love.

a "backgrounder": lolo pete is mom and dad's ninong at their wedding. he's an avid supporter of classical music and everytime we see each other, he would always ask me about my piano lessons. ehe, he said he'd recommend me to a filipino pianist who'd help me continue my studies. yeahoo! and he was the one who influenced my dad in buying a ukelele. teeheehee

congrats to the choir and everyone who performed last night. it was a wonderful concert, and i hope that this concert would be a testimony to God's greatness and goodness.

broadway on philippine idol! YEAHOO!

>> Sunday, November 19, 2006

the night i've been waiting for.

POW - mamita's best for stage
movie: "so far so good"
the video was funny, she can act. and i love the facial expression when she wore the dress. not a complete package, she didn't wear girly shoes to match the dress. haha on her performance, it was a sablay ending: mahangin ang kanyang high note, which is not a normal thing for pow. i guess she's gonna love lea salonga; because she approved of pow wearing pants.
stage: "i'll give my life for you" from miss saigon
wow. blue eye shadow with the eye liner. may background props pa from miss saigon. may hangin note parin, pero wonderful performance. started the musical show with a bang. ahaha, di bagay ang vietnamese costume.

MIGUEL
movie: "growing up"
compared to last week's performance, this one's better. but it's not the best performance, i still want that piano song. :) haha he won't be eliminated. too many fans. uh-oh.
stage: "can you feel the love tonight" from lion king
nice start. may sablay note somewhere in the chorus. his notes went everywhere when the song changed keys. un lang.

GIAN - lea's best for stage
movie: "eto nanaman ako"
OMG KAKAI. PAPA JUSTIN CUYUGAN GUEST IN PHILIPPINE IDOL! Heartbreaker! hahahaha anywaaaay. moving on, ouch yung film ah. no more comment, si gian na bet ko dati pa.
stage: "grease lightning" from grease
hyper song. too theatrical that i think he lost some of the notes. i like his movie performance more. pero... GO GIAN PARIN AKO!

JAN
movie: "bakit ngayon ka lang"
AHAAAY! JAN TOPLESS! hahaha. charing. jan's improving except for that one note that i think went flat. his vibratos are improving and it's not as shaky as before.
stage: "corner of the sky" from pippin
i really like his vibratos now, but some of his lyrics were garbled. and i don't like the shoestring style on his shirt. ahehe congratulations for being able to hold that last note in place. thank you.

MAU - lea's best for movie
movie: "diamonds are forever"
parang di marunong umarte si mau. for the first few minutes, di nagiiba yung facial expression niya. i like the ending. comedy. haha she's still a great singer and a great james bond ending. but she's not my idol. ehe. pero i would want her to win if gian doesn't get the spot. aha wooooah, standing ovation.
stage: "and i'm telling you i'm not going" from dream girls
she looks and sounds like a diva.

on the guest judge:
of all the guest judges, i like lea salonga best. not only that she has that tony award to brag about, she can give a full judgment because she does not only comment on musicality and stage presence, she talks about the experiences and lives of the singers in connection to the songs. i hope she's a mainstay.

on the films:
pwede sillang artista. and the love teams are very funny. bagay naman. the idols can act and can carry on their film roles. :) kewl.

other comment: (may be offensive)
um, can someone not put gretchen's daughter and her friends in the first row and right smack behind the judges? it looks like they're not appreciative of the performances and all they would do is to talk to each other, text, and tuck hair behind their ears (nag bangs pa kasi, tatakpan naman yung mukha). place the eliminated idols there instead, they'll pay more attention.

>> Saturday, November 18, 2006

so i've seen the whole tirona-pitargue family at last.

kate, her boyfriend joel, tita tina and tito eddie arrived first last friday. i saw them the day they arrived in tita mimi's house. there was a short dinner and chitchats with the family. but i didn't get to talk to them that much because lola was busy entertaining them (with matching drama tears). i wasn't able to take a pic of kate and me 'coz everyone was talking with them and i couldn't take a minute to ask for a pic. kate has this dog that she left in australia. and guess what, they have a doggie hotel; complete with doggie pool and spa.

joel's nice. my lola likes him so much, "very respectful and magalang. ay nako, welcome na welcome siya sa familya." and he likes adobo and sinigang. o diba, filipinized. it looks like he wants to learn filipino because he always asks kate to translate some phrases for him. i guess he's not used to the weather because i noticed his ears grow red because of the humidity here. i do have a picture of joel, kaso lang it's blurry. boooo.

they showed us pictures of their house. and i'm sooo going to like their house because they have a lap pool. they have a lap pool. haha, if there would be a swimming pool burglar, it would be me. tito eddie gave me the sydney newspaper to read. our newspapers are faar more different than ours. our sunday newspaper is only one section of theirs. they have a lot of very colorful articles from all around the world. they also have this one section on arts, where they promote art and theater. i wanted to cry with all the theater shows i won't be able to watch. haha ballet shows, improv theater, musicals, museums, dances, everything that would make my musical body go crazy. i promise that one day before i die, i'll watch plays, and sydney plays are part of that itenerary. and i want to watch it in the sydney opera house.

they said that i'd be shocked if we see crissy. crissy arrived days after their arrival, which was a monday. crissy was my pen pal before even if i only saw them in christmas pictures. i saw crissy yesterday, after their trip from boracay. and boy, she's taller than tita tina.

it wasn't bad at all. we ate dinner in greenbelt and i got to talk to crissy more. haha we have the same phone! she still has this filipino spunk of bargaining. she said that when they were in boracay, she was able to bargain for a pair of shades that was originally priced at two hundred pesos. and she bargained with the native language, only with the australian accent. haha

crissy has a lot of stories, and it seems that she's enjoying her life. she could be a model one day, she got the body and the looks. and the dang height. good thing she didn't wear heels when we went to greenbelt or else we'd look like a pencil and a matchstick walking beside each other. harhar.

they were supposed to visit our house today, but there was a change in plans. they postponed the trip to tuesday. boo, i won't be able to see them again (not until next saturday) because i'll be at work. can't be absent, i have a lot of stuff to finish. better start cleaning my pig pen study table.

visit them in australia? soon. but not as early as next year. :)

for once, i didn't want ken to be eliminated last night (though i've been dying for the day that he gets kicked out.)

dj moe was the guest judge for this week's competition. and he made a bet against ken that if ken doesn't get eliminated, he'll wear a dress for the whole week. i badly wanted to see dj moe wear a dress, with that tatoo on his arm and that smirky face.

i noticed that moe is pretty honest and straight forward when it comes to giving out comments. i think that is what puts him in trouble with all the other actors and showbiz people. he seems like he's a nice guy with the nice dj accent, but he's too careless with what he says. and it makes him famous actually, having different tv interview and stints on various shows. i'm not sure if it's really a claim to fame thing.

if miguel gets eliminated next week (which i doubt will happen, because of the thousands of lasallians voting for him. haha), it'll be a tough competition for everyone.

i like mau's haircut, it made her look thinner because less face skin is exposed. the bangs cut off her face, making it look fashionable.

i heard that jan's taking voice lessons, which means that he has this passion to improve his craft. he just needs to be consistent.

gian is still a wonderful singer and a philippine idol. no more comment. consistency is the key.

pow, uuuy. she wore make-up with the blue eye shadow last sunday. wonderful. i agree with mr C's comment on "getting in touch" with her feminine side. consistency is also the key for pow. she's a potential idol.

miguel. too young, but inconsistent. i want the piano-looking swabe guy back. the pop look doesn't fit miguel. he needs to have that clean and classy look because that's what fits him.

i'm gonna watch this sunday's episode of the performances, because it'll have a classical/broadway theme. and the wonderful thing is that they'll have lea salonga as their guest judge! HWEEEEEE! I GOT MY WISH! mwahaha, tough genre, but it'll test the vocal range and singing abilities of the contestants.

oh, and another reason why i was happy with last night's phil idol? christian bautista was there. hahahahaha jologs opm crush, but hey, he's a theater actor! trumpeteer siya! and even though he didn't win in "star in a million", he kept his ground and was able to be part of the roster of singers.

let's go singers!

high school musical

>> Monday, November 13, 2006

i met up with my cousins yesterday in makati. they're part of the high school musical generation.

nikki's 12 years old ("no, i'm turning 13 na!") and taller than me. taller than me. all the time, i had her sit down because i don't want her standing beside me. nakakahiya ang height ko. haha she has these sweet eyes that sparkle everytime she speaks. her mouth forms a smile after every sentence. pa-cute effect, and i find it nice. :)

bea's the sweetest ten-year old ever. we were playing hangman in the living room and whenever we didn't get a letter right, she'd say, "awww." and she found it funny when we weren't following the hang man rules anymore. "we're cheating." she'll say, and let out a giggle. and before we parted ways, she wanted a hug.

monique. the baby of the family. it's been a long time since i've seen her, and she didn't cry when she saw strangers in the room. she gave me a wet kiss and a baby hug. "ate". awwww. she's three years old and she calls her stuffed seal a monkey. she knows almost all tv shows and the actors. she knows the colors and the objects around her. she loves to climb chairs and sit beside you. then she'll walk around the room, then sit beside you again. she'll stare at you until you notice her. she loves to say, "hi tita, hi ate."

and these three kids love high school musical. they'll stop and sing to the songs whenever they see the commercial of the movie on tv. nikki loves zach efron, nikki loves the song "bop to the top", and monique just loves dancing to the songs. they're smart for their age, but they're not the annoying type. they're not the know-it-all girls like sharpay. they're the gabriellas in the family. :)

i can't spend time with them often, because they live in dagupan. their parents are doctors there and it looks like i'll be seeing them next year or anytime the pitargue family decides to meet again.

bea: "go pitargues!"

here are cute text messages i got from text mates. just for laughs!

1112. Jesus and Satan competed on the computer. They started typing. They did every known job, reports, e-mails, attachments and downloads. But before the time was up, lightning, thunder and rain, and brownout came! Satan cursed. Jesus just sighed. When electricity was back, Satan lost every single thing he had done. But Jesus started printing all his files. Satan shouted: You cheated! Jesus just smiled. He did what Satan didn't know: Jesus saves.

1138. Be careful with Erap jokes that you text to your friends. Erap is now monitoring cellphone networks such as Smart, Sun and Globe to find who is making fun of him. This message is texted in English to avoid detection.

1085. Russian: We are first on space! USA: We are first on the moon! Philippines: We will be the first in the sun! USA: You can't go there, you'll burn. Philippines: We are not stupid, we will go there at night!

1086. Doctor: Iho, bakit mo naman sinapak yung lalaki kanina? Boy: E doc, nakita nya nang ninenerbyos ako sa resulta ng AIDS test, tapos, sasabihin pa nya, think positive pare!

1095. Sayang si pare. Ang tatay, summa cum laude sa Ateneo. Ang nanay, summa cum laude sa UP. Ang kapatid, summa cum laude sa DLSU. Ang asawa, summa ma sa iba!

so it's the cramming period of my work life. help me reach my target by PUSHING me to the limit of my brain power. i need to be able to write 10 pages of fun activities per hour on grammar. it would be easy to write boring exercises. the part of thinking of enjoyable activities are the ones that need thinking. i need the latter now until april.

10 pages per hour.

50 pages per day.

that's the target i need to meet. short-term muna, parang far-fetched yung long-term goal namin eh. the 10 pages an hour would make it sound more feasible than the bulk of pages we need to accomplish by april.

i start today. TIME STARTS.... NOW!

not a night person

i'm not a night person. as much as i would like to be with you guys, i can't. because i'm not a night person. and i hate it when you keep telling me that i'm unfair or i don't love you guys because i don't go to your reunions. i don't drink, yet to ask me to drink. i can't relate anymore to your stories, and you reason out my absence.

kaya tinatamad narin ako minsan. actually, most of the time. better pa nga if you don't tell me about your meet-ups.

i'm tired.

thinking of it, i'm changing my reason of "i can't".

i don't want to go anymore. no more.

block e people share the same weakness. starbucks.

jace, geopet, jihan, edlyn and i met up at glorietta for lunch. last time we met, we ate at pazzo, power plant. we kept the italian theme, only with a different restaurant. lunch was at chef d'angelo and boy, were there a lot of people eating there.

we added to the air pollution with our stories, "hysterical" laughs, and share of interests. jace gave me a beauty and the beast storybook (yey, thanks!) and my monthly dosage of tv shows. jihan was present (at last!) and we forced her to stay with us till 3pm and not return to her office by 130. edlyn brought her camera with her (let's go camwhores!). and geopet, was as evil as ever to his best friend, "total eclipse of my heart."

the meet-up was only short, due to some errands. it didn't matter anyway, it was fun seeing my college friends again. we were bound by the universal feeling called love, and it came in many ways. ours was in a cup of coffee (venti for me). what is it with coffee that makes people sit down and talk? what is it with starbucks that teenagers (feeling teenagers kami) would like to hang out there?

for us, it is a vice.

(whoooosh. drama.)

anyway, pictures are in my multiply. i took pictures from edlyn's cam and posted it in my site too. hehe share the love, nakaw the pictures.
