the love of my life

>> Sunday, July 30, 2006

i didn't go to the gelpi office yesterday. ann and i went for a field trip to one of the gelpi centers: in batangas. we visited yasaki-torres to check on their status and performance.

yasaki-torres is one heck of an OC gelpi center. they're super organized in the worksheets of the children. when you enter the center, you'll see a set of pictures plastered on the wall. inside those pictures are time cards to keep track on what time the child enters and leaves the center.

i was amused by one kid, JE. he's such a cute kid, while teacher shiela aided him in his counting "won, tuu, thwee, foh, fayv, see, seve, eyy, nay, teh." his eyes twinkled and turned into upside-down smiles when he laughed. i wanted to give him a hug, but of course, he doesn't know me so i kept my hands to myself. hehe

we returned to manila at around 4 pm, and i was dropped off in landmark. met my parents in glorietta and walked around to pass time. we came across a book sale. and when yumi sees books, she goes crazy. as in crazy.

i spent all my money in buying grade school workbooks for my own reference. they were unbelievably cheap and i didn't know where to start. i spent a total of a thousand pesos buying these thick books which were orginally priced at 700. i bought one for reference in gelpi and i'm getting that book reimbursed. i have to go back to that booksale with more money. i'll raid that booksale before it ends at august 31.

i remember asking regi before, "pano mo malalaman kung mahal mo na yung isang tao?"

he told me that the feeling of love in inexplainable, that you'll only understand it when it's there. (reminds me of 'wonder' from philo. heh.)

after years of trying to understand love, i only realized it this morning when i went to visit ateneo. as i saw familiar faces and my blockmates, i couldn't resist the urge to hug them. the feeling was more than missing them, i knew it was love.

(charing. hindi ito yung emo-cheezy love na kinababaliwan ng heart-broken people, noh. excuse me. haha)

one reason why i love my blockmates is that you could get all shweety-shweety with them without having this feeling of "pag hi-nug ko siya, baka isipin niya type ko siya". i wouldn't mind if they would call home becuase i know they called just for a chit-chat, and not as a way to get my attention. i wouldn't mind meeting with blockmates in a mall or some deserted place in gonzaga because i know it's just a meeting place. i don't care if they would hold my hand in the skating rink, because i know it's just a gesture so that we won't get our butts cold from sitting down on the ice (whee). i don't care if i get the "beso-beso" from them because i know it's just a sign for "i miss yah blockmate.. nothing else attached."

pondering on those things made me realize that it's more than friendship. it's more than friends, but less than lovers. you get to love a person when you trust him or her with all of your heart. it's trust when you know that you can stay with that person and he'll never think that you're hitting on him. it's trust when you know that you can call him in the middle of the night, just to talk about a problem. it's trust when you know that you can sleep on one bed and nothing bad will happen. it's trust when you're willing to go anywhere with them without having to re-assure everyone that you're "just friends". may tiwala ka kapag hindi ka ilang na kasama sila kaharap ng magulang mo, kasi alam mo na alam nila na magkaibigan kayong tunay.

it was fun seeing some of my blockmates this morning. we had a little reunion in xander's office. it was the usual lunch camp in the fine arts department. jace, geopet, edlyn, mitch, and jay were there. miyo was with us (with the new haircut!!), missy joined the hyper mode, and xander was his usual self. i missed that kind of lunch break, where everyone was just sitting lazily on the department chairs, talking about everything our mouths could comprehend.

when geopet was all depressed about work, i couldn't understand at first why he was so attached with the block. one reason was that i was enjoying my work and he was going through hell (but that isn't a reason to quit my dear! haha). words of encouragement was of a friend, but i couldn't really grasp what he was saying because i couldn't relate. i kept on telling him that no matter what, life will go on, but the block will always be there. it wouldn't be a problem to gather the block for dinner, because that's how we are. block e never had problems with bonding, even if we don't see other people for a long time. block e is always block e. we would have different personalities that would change over time, but we would never forget the times we have spent in ateneo, may it be for a sem or for the whole freaking four years.

i only got to fully understand what geopet meant when we were all together in the big and wonderful fa dept. geopet loves us, geopet loves the block, geopet loves the fine arts program, he didn't want to leave anyone of us, he didn't want us to grow apart, that's why he began to feel sad about the idea of us working and having our own lives. that's more than missing the block, that's love.

and after this shitty (whoops)... reflective-cheverness post, i think i would be crazy enough to say that i love my friends. really. as in LOVE.

di ko ma-take ang powerplant.

after we were allowed to go home early (i think i was the only one who left during lunch time), i thought we would go home right away. i was dreaming of a warm bed, while watching the rain pour on the rallyists in commonwealth during gma's sona, and reading the grade school workbooks i bought from national book store yesterday.

i wish i didn't leave... or not.

we went to my lola's house to meet up with my tita. apparently, they were looking for a domestic flight for my tito who'd be coming from australia. they need to book a flight to boracay and my parents and my tita were tasked to look for the best airline. so much for the bed, i tagged along.

after the errands, we had a snack at powerplant. i don't know where in the world did we get the idea of eating there. we kept on driving and found ourselves parking the van in the basement of powerplant.

mhen, the moment i stepped in the mall, the air just screamed, "THIS IS NOT YOUR CROWD!"

it really wasn't.

people were so neat, they were dressed up, and everyone looked as if they had the "bucks". i was used to the crowd in sm, where everywhere you look would be people either just enjoying the aircon, or feeling they had the "bucks". "tambays" in powerplant were people in ties, cellphones in hand, and looked like yuppies (well, they were yuppies). starbucks was loaded with either students with laptops, or foreigners enjoying the philippine life.

it was the only mall where there were no people in jollibee and mcdo.

i saw denrocs and roxy in the restroom. i also saw mrs. matti with two of her children.

starbucks and seattle's were loaded with people, there were no seats available, so we just ate ice cream in FIC.

dad and i went window shopping for shoes. we now have a shoe list in mind. we kept on telling the salesmen and women everytime we left the store, "we will return.. soon." i don't have the money yet to buy shoes, i'll save so i could buy those lacoste ("alligator" as my dad calls them) shoes. i wanna buy my dad and mom shoes from florsheim. soon. soooooon. shoe-whores. haha

i don't know when i'll be back in that mall. i'll stick with the sm crowd, where i fit in, where i belong. haha, powerplant had a different feeling, as if i entered a different planet. there were only three things i really enjoyed in powerplant: (1) the malang art gallery, (2) the piano player in the open area in the middle of tha mall, (3) the banners of the ateneo art awards (ahh.. school spirit). haha

story number two

>> Tuesday, July 18, 2006

they came. cindy was already outside the door, drenched in the rain. she had a backpack slung on her shoulder, three paper bags on her right hand and a pillow on the left. her face was wet with rain and it was impossible to tell if she was crying or not. she wasn't moving an inch since she called.

why did you come back? why did you call? i asked her as she dragged herself towards the car.

it isn't a home. it isn't a home. she kept on repeating.

i covered her weak and shaking body with a warm towel. good thing i always carry a duffle bag with all the important stuff -- toothbrush, extra clothes, underwear, shampoo, soap, towels, and a bar of soap -- you will never know when you'll need them.

how come? the house seems nice. i turned the aircon away from her. the towel wasn't enough. the seat she was sitting on produced a big wet mark, as if she peed on them.

it is a house. but never a home. it will never be. the room, the bathroom, and even the chairs do not spell love. it is not a home. she sniffled after every word.

shhh. that's ok. we hugged her tight but delicately, like a new born baby, helpless, scared, and lost.

i don't want to go back there. no more. no more. not even during christmas. she placed a hand on her face and wiped a tear. she was serious, and there was no space in her heart that could fit a chance of going back to that place.

she looked at my eye and said, i'm home. here. this heart. a home.

she closed her eyes and went to sleep.

i stared at her, dripping hair, feeble body, lying in a fetal position. she has come back and she has found strengh again. with just one ring of the phone.

of all the days that i was available to pass by ateneo,

walang pasok.

classes were suspended because of the storm.

i had to pass by the placement office to pass letters from galileo.

i dropped the history book miyo was borrowing at the fa dept.

i went to the english dept to ask for english consultants, but surprise! even teachers went home early because of the 3pm suspension! so negative on that.

instead, i passed by the oaa to bug the people there. i talked with ate nette and saw that she has her own room. oooh, assistant to the director of admissions. high tech. haha

fa dept is bigger! and with the wonderful shelves! shelves that are from the floor to the ceiling. and with a built-in ladder! i want one. mhen.

the mvp building is a god. haha quad 2 is no more, it's one artwork of stones. it's like zen garden, only that there are no stone benches. so i don't know if it's meant to be stepped on. maybe it's just for display. mvp is one rich guy.

last saturday, cerz, billy, me and karen crashed chino's kitchen and had an iron chef show. we cooked different dishes with corned beef as the main ingredient.

chino and me at the supermarket, spending 600 pesos for ingredients and drinks.

yumi and cerz trying to make our dish work. and it did work! it was improvised because we didn't have the much ingredients to make our plan work. we grabbed everything that was available, even chino's rice for his corned beef rice. haha but at least, it was edible.

yumi and cerz waiting for the guys to cook their dishes. ako ay nangangalikot ng ipod ni cerz ng mga mr bean episodes hehe

the dish on the left is our masterpiece. the one on the right is billy's food. chino's was still cooking. hehe

after eating. still a lot of left overs, but our tummies were very full of corned beef. hahaha everything was delicious! wonderful!

this is so freaking hilarious.

how would people with real talents not get noticed by the public? why do we even make these people famous? isn't it unfair that they get the money that other people (with more talent) deserve to have?

wawa naman pinas.

t-bone? t-back.

>> Friday, July 07, 2006

Q: why do women wear t-backs or thongs?
A: so when they bend down, the butt area will be panty-line-free.

but you'll distinguish a person who is wearing those strings. above the butt line, as you'll notice VERY clearly, is an inverted triangle which is a perfect indicator that a woman is wearing a t-back.

another indicator is when a woman walks. the butt skin will be jingling like water bags because there's no support to hold it up. if you're wearing a full underwear, you dangling skin will be kept in place.

if you think you'll get the butt looks when you have a panty-line, but you'll have more guys staring at your behind when you don't have one. they'll KNOW whom to lust about.

so note to women: wear a full underwear, please. what's the use of wearing one if you'll remove most of its material? underwear is supposed to cover your privies, not let them peek through lace-y and see through cloth.

if you don't want to have those diagonal lines when you wear khaki or white pants, there are girdles that help remove the visible lines. it'll also make you look slim. if you're going to complain that it'll be hot or you don't want something sticking on your skin, either you buy cotton girdles or wear nothing. even if you wear t-back undies, your fit pants will still be glued to your flawless skin.

"bawal ma-excite."

i got that expression from ina and it has been my informal motto for 3 years. (people will give me the weird look if i tell them it's my real motto. haha)

if you're the kind of person who's superstitious, it's similar to saying "don't jinx it".

i have a different explanation for that.

"bawal ma-excite" means, don't expect too much. if i have my hopes up in the clouds, i might not be able to reach that expectation. it might go crashing down, farther than where hades lives.

"bawal ma-excite" means not putting a period to what you say. when i want something, i don't make a news flash about it. when i applied for galileo, i didn't want to tell anybody. i just wrote a simple sentence, but never elaborated on it. if i say i want it and be excited about the offer, i might cry if they didn't call me.

"bawal ma-excite" means staying normal. i go on with my life as if there isn't something to expect soon. events that are planned too well don't go that well (irony!). scheduled that are too organized are not followed correctly. if you make it too perfect, one teeny-weeny change can make a big mistake.

"bawal ma-excite" means i want it to be a secret. for now. i'll tell people when it has happened so i can be something i'm proud of. it's better to have people realize that you're in, than keeping them hyped over something that might not happen. (come to think of it, it's kinda of a selfish reason.)

it may be a jinx or a superstition, but for me it's a reminder that i shouldn't think that the puzzle pieces will perfectly fit together. i shouldn't fuss about it, so they'll fit.

"bawal ma-excite."

oh yeah. it's something that i made this afternoon. i was just bored and creativeness kicks in when you're bored.
